Today we celebrate the 25th birthday of the University of Applied Science (HTWK). We are present with a booth. Visit us if you're in Leipzig!

Saturday, 10 June 2017

Yesterday we participated in the Bembelcup as part of the annual Night of Science at the Goethe University Frankfurt. We defended our title from the last year by winning all our 4 matches against the Nao Devils and the hosts the Bembelbots.

A special thanks goes to Nao Devils, which lent us a Nao body. He scored 8 of our 13 goals. :)

Back home from the German Open 2017

We are back home from Magdeburg. It was an amazing time during the German Open 2017 and we are happy having made the second place in the Standard Platform League.

Most of our robots won't stay long in Leipzig. They have many hardware defects which must be fixed by Softbank Robotics in Paris.

Especially one robot had an big incident during the final match against B-Human. Maybe some of you saw on the live stream that he lost is head while he falls on his side. Now his neck is completely broken.  We hope he will be better soon.

Nao-Team HTWK vs. B-Human - 1:4

We are happy having made the second place at the German Open 2017. Congratulations to B-Human who won the first place.
More to follow once we are back home...

Nao-Team HTWK vs. Nao Devils - 4:1

After an exhausting match we won against the Nao Devils with a score of 4:1. The team from Dortmund had a very fast walking but our dribble strategy saved the game.

We made it to the finals against B-Human which is scheduled for today at 15:00 CEST.

Our next opponents are the Nao Devils

The match Nao Devils vs. HULKs just finished with a score of 8:0. So our next game will be against the Nao Devils from Dortmund. We hope we can play as well as in our last match against them which ended yesterday 5:1 for us.
Mark your calendars tomorrow morning at 10:30 CEST to support us so we can win this semi final match.

Nao-Team HTWK vs. B-Human - 0:3

Congratulations to our opponent B-Human from Bremen who won with a score of 3:0. This year we improved our walking engine but they are still faster. Both teams struggled with fading hardware.

However we are in the semi final which will take place tomorrow morning. Our opponent will be chosen this afternoon.
Stay tuned for more information.

Some Impressions of the first competition day

Every free moment on the field was used by the teams to make improvements even if it's just a timeout of five minutes.

We also had some support by a cute girl who wanted to help our robots to win the match against Berlin United during the second half ;)

See you tomorrow at 11:00 CEST in Magdeburg. If you can't be here visit the live stream.

Next match tomorrow at 11:00 CEST

Quick update: The time of our next match against B-Human has changed. The new time is tomorrow morning at 11:00 CEST.

Nao-Team HTWK vs. Berlin United - 6:0

Our last match of the day just concluded, we had to deal with two breakdowns so we played just with three robots in the first half. As you can see in the picture Berlin United had some trouble with one of their robots too. Luckily our problems could be solved during the half time and we returned with five robots to the second half.

With a result of 6:0 we look forward to our next match tomorrow morning at 9:00 CEST against B-Human from Bremen, the current world champion.

Nao-Team HTWK vs. Nao Devils - 5:1

We just finished our first match against the Nao Devils. The first half ended with a score of 2:0.
We are very happy that we have won the match with 5:1.

Our next game will be at 16:00 CEST against Berlin United. Like all the other matches of the SPL the game will be streamed live by the StreamTeam.

At 12:00 CEST starts our first match against the Nao Devils from Dortmund.

German Open Setup: Day 2

The stream team has arrived with a team of 4 to ensure everything runs smoothly tomorrow.

Prior to that we had the referee meeting and a whistle test, as every referee is allowed to bring their own.

German Open Setup Days

The first setup day is over. We used our time before the venue closed at 10 pm to improved various parts of our code such as the get up motion which is stable again.

Right now we are in the hotel room and discuss our plans for tomorrow over a beer.

German Open Schedule

We arrived at the venue in Magdeburg.

Ready to go
There are some changes in the format of the competition. Instead of randomly assigned groups the games are played out in a Champions Cup and a Challenge Shield. The best 2 teams of the Champions Cup will qualify for the semi finals, while the bottom 2 have to face the top teams of the Challenge Shield for the remaining slots in the semis.
Due to our previous strong results we are seeded into the Champions Cup along with B-Human, Berlin United and Nao Devils. We have our first match Friday at 12:00 CEST.

Iran Open 2017 Finals

The last match of this year's Iran Open was held between the HULKs and us.

In an intense and exceptionally competitive match, we managed to score a 4:0 against the Kickers from Hamburg.

Our robots had to tackle some difficulties like super loud commentator speakers and delocalization. Our hearts even skipped a beat when one of our robots was about to score an own goal - which luckily got prevented by our defense.

Aftererwards, we got awarded the first place in this year's competition during an extravagant award ceremony. The day then closed with a dinner on the SPL field together with the whole SPL league.

We will use the remaining days in Iran to explore vast culture of this country.

Iran Open 2017 Days 1 & 2

Since yesterday morning, we had our first three matches in this year's Iran Open competition.

Our first opponent was the dutch Nao Team against whom we scored 6:0.

In the afternoon, our second match against MRL closed with a score of 3:0 after a tough match with several technical difficulties.

Our third match just finished half an hour ago. Against Iran's second SPL Team 'SRC' we managed to achieve a score of 5:0.

Just see the smiles on our faces:

To compensate for the delay of our posts, we took a photo of our newest team member 'Franni' in a traditional Iranian Hijab among our robots.

Stay tuned for updates.

Iran Open 2017: Prelude

The journey to this year's Iran Open competition started somewhat different than anticipated. 7 hours before departure, our team leader Rico noticed he had forgotten his passport in Munich. He stayed in Leipzig at that time and the team was just about to leave to Berlin for their flight to Tehran.

And so the challenge began. One car, two people and one passport against the time.

We managed to find a courier who would pick up Rico's passport in Munich at 11:00 AM and drive all the way up to Berlin Schönefeld Airport by 4:40 PM.

After an intense drive involving several congestions and ignoring any speed limits, the courier managed to arrive in time at 4:40 PM.

Initially, our flight was supposed to depart at 4:55 PM. Fortunately, it got delayed until 5:25 PM so the very kind lady at the check-in told us Rico would have to show up at the counter with his passport by 4:40 PM.

And he made it!

Just look at the smile on his face:

Ok, he is still a bit exhausted. But deep inside he definitely felt relieved.

Long story short: never forget your passport. But as the old German saying goes: What you don't have in your head, you've got it in your legs. (or wheels, respectively)
